The Uttoxter Roadshow

f you couldn't make it to the TMCollectables hosted Myth and Magic Roadshow at Uttoxeter races, then we've got the next best thing - photos and a report of the day!

I arrived at the location 10 minutes before the advertised 10am start time (it could have been sooner, but my SatNav decided to send me into a retail park about 2minutes from the racecourse!), and sat reading in my car until 10am.

Freebies on arrival! Upon entering the building, I was greeted by a cheerful Xystos employee who thrust a few goodies into my hand: a mug, pen, special roadshow drout and myth and magic lapel badge. Spread out along the right side of the room were tables and tables of retired studies for sale (lovely to see, as collectors are always looking for that missing study in their collections).

Vigil at the Dragon Stone (OY10) To the left of the room Jesssica was available to chat to about her latest designs for next years studies. The year piece looks as good as ever, along with a special "redemption piece" for club members (I imagine this is to placate collectors unhappy at the demise of the 90xx series) that has been designed to link into the presentation piece to form a 'double piece'. There were several standard and large pieces shown, and a pleasent image I saw was a sketch for the next "Dragon Clan" trilogy. What have we started here with the Valiant Clan idea we suggested a few years back??

A TMCollectables tombola was available - and there were some pretty spectacular prizes for the cost of a ticket (at one point I did see a collector heading to their car with a "Daredevil" study they had won).

Tina painting studies Beyond the retired studies tables, Tina Sherrett was demonstrating how she takes the standard pewter effect studies, and paints them to create unique studies. She had a wide range of coloured studies on show and available to buy; there were several large studies, and many from the Lord of the Rings range too. During the roadshow, she could be seen painting last years Extravaganza study "Dragon of the Dawn".

At the far end of the room, TMCollectables were taking orders for some of the new studies. The Valiant Clan dragons seemed to be selling well - and for those of you who bought them, don't confuse the order like I did and think they don't fit together! However, it was unfortunate that TMCollectables were unable to supply some of the new studies today - but this was an issue with Xystos logistics, not TMCollectables.

ContendersThe location for the Roadshow was very central for the midland, and actually not too far from last years Extravaganza at Alton Towers. Had the Hot Air Balloon festival that was due to take place in the centre of the racecourse not have been cancelled, it would have added an extra element to the roadshow.

We also had chance to talk with Craig from Xystos about the collectors club. For those who want to vent their feelings over the club towards him, please reconsider; he's as frustrated as we are with decisions made above him. However, he's fighting for the club and members and trying to get our feelings and suggestions across. Let's hope he succeeds!

The Sorcerer Summons...

So the Sorcerer has summoned us all, and tomorrow those who live in the "mid-lands" have the opportunity to head to Uttoxter Racecourse for the first of three Myth and Magic Roadshows, held by TMCollectables.

We'll be attending this one, and hope to see you there too. If anything happens during the day, we'll tweet it live from the event (@dragonscavern) before mentioning it in a blog posting later on in the day.

Blog Headline Widget Status

The wigdet on the main website that displays the latest posts from here in the blog is currently not working. The widget designers (springwidget) have undergone maintenance over the weekend, but now they seem to have a problem displaying all their created widgets.

Until it is fixed, we've got a big empty space on the main page, as well as on the sitemap page.

Update (28/08): The widget is working again!

Why no Sculptors names?

This is a question we get asked often via email; "Why have you started using n/a in the sculptor column?"

It's simple, in the early days of Myth and Magic the studies were designed and manufactured in the UK at the Solihull factory of Watsons. Whilst being manufactured in the UK, it was possible for the company to oversee who sculptured each study, and so it possible to list their name on the history charts.

Early Studies

As time moved on, production of the studies was sent abroad and the sculptor of each piece became unknown. Hence the reason now that all studies are listed with the designers name (Jessica Ascough recently) only.

Later Studies

Tracking down a study...

The inclusion of a new version of the collection list within the latest club magazine (Issue 46) left me scratching my head in confusion when I looked through it, as I mentioned in a recent post.

It was all to do with the inclusion of a study named "Homage To The DragonLord", ref #3410, that was listed within the charts, but no information existed about it. I did find an image of it on the mini-brochure that is present in the boxes of the recent Valiant Clan studies, but could find no more information. After contacting Craig at Xystos, I now have the answer. Here is the reply he sent to me;

"Homage To The Dragon Lord is proving to be a real thorn in my side. This piece was pulled, along with the entire 2008 launch of pieces due to quality issues. I was later informed that it was being released Spring 2009 only for it to be pulled again. It is being released but not until Feb 2010. The factories have not used the new design inbox brochure, hence it is still being advertised and I completely forgot to change the History Chart."

So there you have it - as we already knew with the late arrival of some pieces - they were scrapped due to not being up to the standard expected. Homage To The DragonLord seems to have suffered doubley though. Let's hope it's not third time unlucky when it's due for release! If I get an image, I'll drop it into Twitpc - so you'll see it appear on the Twitter list on the right of this screen.

Updates to the Concordance

The latest information for the Concordance (taken from the latest issue of The Methtintdour Times) has now been added to the Concordance to make sure it's up to date.

New images, New logo!

The new standard and large studies are now listed on the main website with images for all (with the exception of 3411 - The Bridge over the Abyss). You'll also notice that we have also redesigned the main website logo so that it is in keeping with the logos on both this blog and on The Concordance.

One change I've made is that the search icon is no longer shown at the top of each page - but the menu bar does now carry a search option to allow you to access the search facility still.

Hope you like it all!

PS: If anyone knows any information about 3410 Homage To The DragonLord, please contact me with the info you have!
